If you visit one of services, it might be hard to figure out who the pastor is. Our church leadership is patterned after the New Testament churches led by a group of elders. We have four men serving in that capacity. They care for the people, pray for the church, preach the sermons, and are careful to follow the leading of the Holy Spirit. You may notice each of them having a part in our meeting.

Our senior pastor is Murray Bradfield. But he doesn’t fit the mold of the typical senior pastor who does it all. We’ve discovered that God makes each of us different and that He never intended for one person to do all of the work. In the Bible, Paul compares a church to a body with many parts doing a lot of very different things. In our church, it’s the same. God gives people a heart to do what He has called them to do. Murray’s gift is preaching and leadership, so he focuses on that.

Other elders may have a heart for prayer or worship or outreach or discipleship or counseling, so they focus on that. We find our plurality of leadership keeps us in tune with God’s voice. That’s true for everything from our long-range vision to the direction each meeting should take. We want to rely on what God is saying and not on someone else’s successful formula.

Our primary job is to equip the people to become mature Christians. We want them to take risks. So you don’t always need one of the elders to pray for you or to bring a word of encouragement. In fact, you might see any of our members come forward with a short message for us or to pray for someone. It’s all part of realizing that God can use anyone. It’s not about ability. It’s about availability.

We are blessed with committed leaders in all areas of our church. You can count on each of them to be depending on God’s leading as they focus on our vision, mission, and values.
